Ann Stephens Latimore

Ann Stephens Latimore, 79, of Saluda, returned to her Lord on August 29, 2018.

Ann was born on August 10, 1939, the second and youngest child of Levi and Alene Stephens. She graduated from James Weldon High School in York County and continued her education at Hampton Institute, receiving her bachelor’s degree in music in 1961. A lifelong educator, she taught for more than 30 years in North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia.

A classically-trained musician, Ann’s parents made tremendous sacrifices to provide for their children’s musical training. Ann not only inherited her parents’ indomitable spirit but also their commitment to God and love for the community. Reared in the church, Ann accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of St. John, First Baptist and Antioch Baptist churches in Williamsburg and Saluda during her life. Her commitment to the Lord remained steadfast during the entirety of her life. A devoted church member, Ann worked tirelessly in church work including numerous church and convention choirs.

A humble and strong woman who wanted to bring everyone together, Ann will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 44 years, Carey III; their son, Carey IV and his wife Almie; daughters, Kimberly (Al) and Kerri; grandson, Brandon; sister-in-law, Helen; nieces, Lynn (Jay) and Adilah (Howard); and nephew, Levi (Patrice). She also leaves precious memories and remembrances of a life filled with sincerity and care to family members, former students and friends.

Ann’s funeral service will be held Saturday, September 8, at 1 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in Saluda.

Flowers and condolences may be sent to J.K. Redmond Funeral Home, 3632 Lewis B. Puller Memorial Hwy., Shacklefords, VA 23156.
