After moving to Hartfield she volunteered at various organizations in the area. Her most successful and important contributions, however, were as a wife, mother, and friend. Shirley was a voracious reader who could easily read and comprehend two novels a day.

Laura K. Medicus, 87, of Deltaville, widow of Franklin L. Medicus, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in Walter Reed Hospital. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad in Deltaville and was also a driver.
