Isla Bridger Brown
Isla Bridger Brown, 81, of Wake, formerly of Deltaville, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman. She is survived by her sister, Annette Johnston of Urbanna; her sons, Stephen Loxley of Florida and Vernon Loxley of Arizona; and two daughters, Missy Loxley and Alice Nelson, both of Wake, and their families including 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Born on January 2, 1919 in Matoaca, Bea was also a resident of Colonial Heights and Richmond before settling in Deltaville and establishing the former Flagship Restaurant. She was the daughter of Gladys and Gibson Kitchen and was preceded in death by husbands James W. Rust and George Fahed.

Capt. John Gayle Anderton, 97, of Saluda passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011. Mr. Anderton was born in Bohannon (Mathews) on December 5, 1913, the son of Harry Elmore Anderton and Ora Maude White Anderton. Mr. Anderton has lived in Middlesex County for the past 65 years.

A native of Deltaville, Herman served in the Navy and was a crew member of the U.S.S. Missouri. He returned to Deltaville as a firefighter with the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. He retired in 1965 and worked in Deltaville boatyards and as a rural mail carrier throughout his retirement.
