Howard A. “Mickey” Nelson, 81, of Remlik, a retired building contractor and waterman died Tuesday, December 13, 2011. He was a member of Urbanna United Methodist Church where he was very instrumental in the construction of the present day building. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Mary J. “Sookie” Burch, 80, of Remlik died Wednesday, December 7, 2011. She was the widow of J. Stanley Burch and was a member of Urbanna United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Jan Dunlevy and her husband Charles of Remlik; a brother, Woodford L. Johnson of Tappahannock; and three grandchildren.

Allen Rudolph Bowens, a former principal at Rappahannock Central Elementary School and Title I director in Middlesex County, passed away at the age of 88 on Monday, December 5, 2011. Mr. Bowens was active in St. John Baptist Church and was a member of the Essex County NAACP.

Karen Hinton Stebbins, 68, passed away at her Locust Hill home on Friday, December 9, 2011 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Her husband, Don Stebbins, was at her side. She married Don in 1989 in Miami where he was assigned as a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service.

Charlotte L. Moore, 93, of Hartfield died Thursday, December 8, 2011. She retired from C&O Railroad with 35 years of service as chief clerk. She is survived by her husband, Porter W. Moore; a son, Stacey Moore and his wife Angela of Topping; two grandchildren, Scott and Brittany; four step-grandchildren, Melinda, Amber, Josh and Cody; and nine great-grandchildren.

Surrounded by family in her McLean home, Sally Fitzpatrick Libbey passed away on November 23, 2011 after fighting over five years against breast cancer and its implications. Sally was born December 1946 in Yonkers, N.Y., and graduated from the University of Maryland. She spent most of her adult life in the Washington, D.C., area until retiring in Urbanna.
