Alexander West Jr. passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015. A native of Middlesex, he resided in Plainfield, N.J., for many years. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 18, at Calvary Baptist Church, Christchurch. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Richard Cornelius “Ricky” Scott passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond on December 30, 2014, after a struggle with cancer. He was a member of Grafton Baptist Church in Hartfield. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Richard and Hilda Scott. He was raised in Wake.

Monte C. Haun, 80, of Whitesburg, Tenn., formerly of Middlesex County, passed away December 17, 2014. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Haun and Julia Haun, both of Olmsted Falls, Ohio.

Willie “Popsy” Dixon, 72, longtime drummer and vocalist for the soul and blues band “The Holmes Brothers,” died Friday, January 9, 2015, after a brief illness. With The Holmes Brothers he toured the world and released 12 albums. The group’s most recent release was 2014’s “Brotherhood” on Alligator Records.

Levi E. Braxton Jr., known to family and all as Buster or Uncle Earl, was born May 18, 1918 to the late Levi and Elnora Braxton Sr. Levi, a gift from God, was the second son of eight children. He answered the call from his heavenly Father and left his rented castle to take occupancy in his promised mansion Monday, December 9, 2014.

Timmy McDaniel Tucker Sr., 46, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 in Sarasota, Fla. Timmy graduated from Middlesex High School. He moved to Florida four years ago. A memorial service was held January 3 at New Hope United Methodist Church by Rev. Brian Siegle.
