Planners, supervisors approve special exceptions
A declining economy is directly related to two special exceptions that were recently recommended for approval by the Middlesex Planning Commission, and granted by the Middlesex Board of Supervisors on March 16.

Middlesex faces $800,000 shortfall
Middlesex County taxpayers may be facing another real estate tax hike this year due to a revenue shortfall in the current FY09 budget. Supervisors were informed Tuesday the county collected $800,000 less than budgeted in real estate tax revenue due to a miscalculation in a reassessment year.

Fairheart welcomes stimulus, but has concerns
It’s been a merry-go-round for school officials this year as national and state economic woes have created havoc in budget planning. Federal stimulus funds have, at least temporarily, allowed Middlesex school officials to come up with enough funds to prevent major layoffs in the coming school year.

Housing starts down; new lots up
With the economy in a steep dive, the number of single-family homes started in Middlesex County in 2008 was the lowest in at least 8 years, according to the Middlesex Planning Department.
