Vandals spray paint signs and playground items

The Middlesex county Sheriff’s Office is investigating a break-in at the Urbanna Pool and vandalism that occurred either Sunday night or early Monday in Urbanna, reported Major M.E. Sampson.

Sampson said vulgar words and swastikas were spray painted on numerous items in the Taber Park playground. Also, several signs were spray painted on Route 602 on the west side of Urbanna. The paint was yellow and/or red.

The name of a juvenile also was spray painted on one piece of equipment. The juvenile was interviewed by the sheriff’s office investigator, but the juvenile is not believed to be a suspect, said Sampson.

The investigator and a deputy followed up on several leads and obtained evidence that has been submitted to the State Laboratory in Richmond.

On Tuesday, August 6, the investigators discovered a person of interest and spoke with that individual, said Sampson. No charges have been placed.

The town pool also was broken into the same night as the vandalism occurred and the break-in is believed to be related, said Sampson.

To report any information on these crimes, call the Middlesex Sheriff’s Crime Line at 758-5600.
