Urbanna Town Hall needs ‘costly’ repairs
|Stucco popped off the south side of the Urbanna Town Hall recently. Cracks in the stucco are visible to the right of the opening. A preliminary inspection indicates the building has water and termite damage. A complete inspection by a consultant is currently under way. (Photo by Tom Chillemi)|

Stucco has fallen off a section of the outside of the Urbanna Town Hall and exposed the interior of walls that contain mold and asbestos, reported town administrator Holly Gailey at recent meetings of the Urbanna Town Council.
A building inspector was hired to evaluate the two-story building, but after just a few hours the inspector recommended a structural engineer be hired to look at the integrity of the town hall, said Gailey.
Gailey said the building is leaning toward one side and the shifting has occurred recently. There also is termite and water damage in the walls.
Mayor Don Richwine said, “It’s something we are going to have to face up to. It’s in bad shape.”
