Urbanna supports tourism proposal

The Urbanna Town Council supports a proposal under consideration by Middlesex County that could create a Tourism and Economic Development Department and hire a director.
The idea of a county-wide department to foster tourism and economic development has been discussed by the Middlesex Board of Supervisors. The proposed preliminary budget includes $79,000 for it. However, no final decision on whether to establish the department has been made.
At the February 25 meeting of the Urbanna Town Council, no council member spoke against the idea of Urbanna joining with the county to promote tourism in Middlesex County. Urbanna already has a small visitor’s center in the Old Tobacco Warehouse.
The IDA and at least some of the supervisors have indicated there needs to be more of a county-wide plan addressing long-term tourism and economic development.
