Town receives grant to rebuild boat ramp

by Tom Chillemi

Urbanna has been awarded a $78,750 state grant to rebuild the boat ramp at the Urbanna Town Marina at Upton’s Point.

The current ramp has developed a drop off at the end, due in part to boaters revving their engines to drive boats onto trailers.

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries grant will pay 75% of the cost of complete demolition and rebuilding of the concrete ramp.

The grant is for 75% of the project up to $78,750. Therefore, the town has to match the grant funds by 25%, said Stephen A. Kesler, boating access specialist with the VDGIF.

The town’s match can be in the form of money and/or in-kind services.  An in-kind match can be in the form of personnel costs, labor, equipment, design costs, engineering, permitting, or other costs directly associated with the development of the boat launch, Kesler said.
