Tour to focus on Best Management Practices

The Tidewater Soil and Water Conservation Board of Directors invites the public to attend an Agricultural Best Management Practice (BMP) Tour on June 11. 

This tour will consist of a 3:30 p.m. chartered bus ride from the Gloucester County Library (Main Street Center parking lot), visits to two local farms (4:30-7:30 p.m.) to view installed Best Management Practices (BMPs), a complimentary dinner (7:45 p.m.) at Ann’s Family Dining at Glenns, and return (9 p.m.) to the library.

The first stop will be at Smoky Point Farm in Water View to view a marsh grass buffer for shoreline stabilization.

At Boxley Farm in Harcum, participants will view no-till crops, cover crops, wildlife habitat plots, and timber management. Also, there will be demonstrations of nitrogen injector equipment and a rainfall simulator that visually shows the effects of erosion.

The tour will conclude with a complimentary dinner and the return bus ride to the Gloucester County Library.
