Student recovering from Swine Flu
On the evening of Friday, June 5, Middlesex Schools Superintendent Rusty Fairheart was notified by Dr. Thomas Irungu, director of the Three Rivers Health District, that a student at Middlesex Elementary School has been diagnosed with H1N1 (Swine Flu).
The affected student is at home recovering and has not been in school since being diagnosed, said Fairheart in a correspondence sent to parents and guardians via the school system’s Instant Alert system.
Fairheart also sent letters home with students on Monday, June 8, about the situation and listed guidelines to keep the flu from spreading.
Fairheart said county schools will remain open and operate on a normal schedule.
“While the spread of the virus from person-to-person continues, the severity of the virus does not appear to be any more severe than seasonal flu,” said Fairheart, citing information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
