State record spadefish registered

image
Roland Eugene Murphy (right) of Fredericksburg caught a new state record spadefish that weighed 14.92 pounds on June 13. Murphy’s spadefish is also a pending world record. He registered the citation fish at The Tackle Shop at J&W Seafood in Deltaville. Murphy was fishing with Allan King (left) aboard the “King Fish” at The Cell. The pair had arrived early on Saturday and shared the area with other boats until a rainstorm drove most boats home. The 26-inch-long fish hit a fresh clam bait as the storm was ending.
