Sergeant Epperly is home from Cuba
The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office has announced the much anticipated return of Sergeant M.E. Epperly to active duty with the sheriff’s office.
Epperly, who is in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves, was activated and deployed with his unit to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in November of 2008. Epperly’s unit was attached to a Joint Task Force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, while conducting maritime anti-terrorism force protection operations. While there, Epperly’s unit received a letter of commendation for their service and support efforts while providing security for the commission’s process and base security at U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay. Additional medals and ribbons were awarded to the unit as well during their tour in Cuba.
The unit logged over 4,300 patrol hours and handled over 100 escorts of “high value assets.” Epperly and his unit returned to the U.S. mainland on May 31. Once his unit is deactivated at the end of June, Epperly will resume his position as patrol sergeant with the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office.
