Real estate tax bills are in the mail
Real estate bills for the first half of 2009 were mailed May 8 by the Middlesex County Treasurer’s Office.
For the taxpayers’ convenience, bills may be paid at any local branch of BB&T, Citizens and Farmers Bank or EVB. Also, a drop box for 24-hour payment service is available at the Woodward Building in the courthouse complex in Saluda.
Taxpayers can also pay their tax with a credit card, debit card or electronic check by calling 1-800-2PAY-TAX (1-800-272-9829) or by visiting officialpayments.com on the web. At the prompt, enter jurisdiction code 1061. There will be a nominal convenience fee charged for this service. All major credit cards are accepted.
Also this year on the county website, co.middlesex.va.us, is inquiry information and payment options for real estate and personal property taxes. Visa and MasterCard are accepted. There will be a convenience fee charged.
Taxpayers are welcome to visit the treasurer’s office and pay in person or mail their payments. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Payments are due June 5.
The treasurer only collects taxes; she does not assess property, fix valuations, set rates or grant exemptions and has no authority to make changes to the tax roll. For inquiries relating to assessments, contact Middlesex Commissioner of the Revenue Priscilla J. Davenport at 758-5331.
For payment information or questions, call the Middlesex County Treasurer’s Office, Betty S. Bray, Treasurer, at 758-5302.
