New Urbanna administrator: ‘I feel like I’ve found a home’

by Tom Chillemi

Brandon Waddell, 41, began working as the new Urbanna Town Administrator on February 19. “I’m real excited about the opportunity,” he said.

A Hampton native, Waddell lives in West Point with his wife and children. Waddell was a mortgage banker with BB&T from 1999 to 2005, and has experience using financial software and related office systems.

Waddell said he left banking because he wanted to get into public service and wanted to help people. Managing Urbanna is an ideal fit for his goals, he said. “This is exactly what I wanted to do and exactly where I wanted to be doing it.”

Waddell said his wife Carmen has been in love with Urbanna for years and the couple has visited many times. “It’s a gorgeous little town,” he said. “I feel like I’ve found a home.”

Waddell earned a master’s degree in public administration from Old Dominion University (ODU) in 2011.

Between 1993 and 1996, he earned his bachelor’s degree in pre-law at East Carolina University, where he was the editor of the college newspaper.

Waddell and his wife enjoy spending time with their three children: Erin 17, Ryan, 7, and Jack 5.
