Murder suspect faces more charges
Travis Al Baker of Water View has been charged with 3 more felonies related to the shooting death of Wendy Billups of Saluda on September 8, reported Major M.E. Sampson of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office.
Baker was already charged with first-degree murder, and using a firearm in the commission of a felony for shooting Billups, 33, at her residence on Urbanna Road.
In addition, on September 11 Baker was charged with feloniously discharging a firearm in an occupied building, and two counts of felony child endangerment, said Sampson. Billups’ two children, who are under the age of 7, were in the residence when the shooting occurred, said Sampson.
Baker told police Billups was his girlfriend and he had gone to her residence to visit his children on his son’s birthday. Baker told police when he got to Billups’ residence she told him to leave. Baker said he then “snapped and shot her in the head,” according to police.
Shortly after the shooting, Baker turned himself into the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, reported Sampson.
Baker, 34, was arraigned on September 11 in Middlesex Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court where Judge Cessondra B. Conyers named Brian Decker of Gloucester as Baker’s court-appointed attorney.
His preliminary hearing has been set for November 27.
