Middlesex man convicted of 2 felonies after boat crash on Urbanna Creek
by Larry S. Chowning
Jeremy D. Adams, 31, of Middlesex was found guilty in Middlesex Circuit Court Thursday by Judge Ray W. Grubbs of two felony charges and a misdemeanor related to a boating accident that occurred last summer on Urbanna Creek.
Adams was found guilty of unauthorized use of a boat, and breaking and entering, both felonies. He also was found guilty of a misdemeanor—operating a boat while intoxicated.
Adams was operating a 22-foot Robalo sports-fishing boat when the boat struck the Urbanna Creek jetty in the early morning hours of July 23, 2011.
Adams was found not guilty of a felony charge that claimed he was “feloniously operating a motorboat intoxicated while in a manner so gross… and culpable as to show reckless disregard for human life, intentionally causing serious injuries” to one of the four passengers on the boat. A similar charge against Adams involving another passenger was dropped.
A pre-sentencing hearing will be held at 1:30 p.m. on April 4 in Middlesex County Circuit Court.
More details on the trial will be in the February 9 issue of the Southside Sentinel.
