Middlesex deputies arrest firearm suspect

In the early morning hours of Sunday, January 28, the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office (MSO) was contacted by the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office for a mutual aide in reference to a hold-up alarm at the 7-Eleven at Glenns in Gloucester County, reported Major M.E. Sampson of the MSO.

According to Major Sampson, around 1:30 a.m. Gloucester dispatchers relayed to the Middlesex dispatcher to be on the lookout for a white male who had reportedly pulled a gun on a clerk at the 7-Eleven located at the intersection of Route 17 and Route 33. He was described as wearing a tan Carhartt jacket and a red t-shirt. Middlesex deputies responded to the area of the 7-Eleven and observed an individual matching the description next door at Friday’s Marine. Middlesex deputies placed the individual on the ground at gunpoint and subsequently relinquished custody of the individual to Gloucester County deputies.

Daniel Scott Smith Jr., 25, was transported to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office and charged with three counts of brandishing a firearm.

Records of the Gloucester General District Court indicate Smith’s address as Saluda, and that he was released from custody on his personal recognizance.

Smith is scheduled to appear in court on February 14.
