Manquin man dies in three-vehicle crash
A fatal motor vehicle crash occurred at approximately 3:14 p.m. on Monday, March 24, on Route 30 east of Route 671, Mangohick Circle, in King William County, reported the Virginia State Police.
State Police were called to the scene of the crash involving two tractor-trailers, a dump truck and a 2002 Dodge Neon. The crash occurred when the Neon, which was traveling westbound on Route 30, was attempting and continuing to pass two tractor-trailers on a double solid line. The Neon struck an eastbound dump truck head-on. The Neon then struck one of the tractor-trailers before overturning. The dump truck then struck the other tractor-trailer.
The male driver of the Neon, Robert L. Mooney, 19, of Manquin died at the scene. His mother, Elizabeth A. Mooney, 48, of Manquin, a passenger in the Neon, was flown by State Police Med-Flight to VCU Medical Center in Richmond with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Everybody involved in the crash was wearing their safety belts. The crash remains under investigation.
