Learn how to spot fake news

by Carrie Dos Santos
MCPL Executive Director

We’ve all come across it on social media. That headline that makes your blood boil or sounds like the deal of the century. The article was shared by your cousin, so it must be true. Right? Join us as we talk about how to spot fake news on Saturday, January 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the Urbanna Branch of the Middlesex Library.

“How to Spot Fake News” will be presented by library director Carrie Dos Santos. Carrie will cover several methods of evaluating news, particularly science and pop culture news, along with humorous examples and valuable fact-checking resources. “The Middlesex Library is in the ideal position to teach people how to think critically about the information that bombards them on a daily basis. We want people to ask questions and investigate and come to their own, informed conclusions,” stated Dos Santos, who holds a masters degree in information science.

The presentation is free and open to the public. We would like to remind attendees to be courteous and respectful during the presentation. For more information, call the Middlesex Library at 804-758-5717, like us on Facebook at @middlesexcountypubliclibrary, or go to our website http://www.yourmiddlesexlibrary.org. And you can always stop by our two branches in Deltaville and Urbanna.
