Jury convicts man of rape and forcible sodomy

On Friday, June 1, following a three-day trial, a Middlesex County Circuit Court jury found Jerimie Dennis Roach, 43, guilty of rape, forcible sodomy, sexual abuse of a minor in his custody or supervision, and two counts of inanimate object sexual penetration.

Middlesex Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Hurd said evidence and testimony in court showed the victim was 17 years old when the offenses occurred at Roach’s home in Middlesex from June 11 to August 31, 2016.

The jury recommended a sentence of 45 years for rape, 25 years for inanimate object penetration of the female sexual organ, 25 years for inanimate object penetration of the anus, 10 years for sodomy, and 5 years for sexual abuse of a child in his custody or supervision, for a total sentence of 110 years.

Trial
The victim, who is now 19, testified the sexual abuse by Roach began when they lived in Georgia and she was around 13 years old. She testified that she moved to Middlesex with Roach around June 11, 2016. Roach was the adult in a supervisory or custodial capacity of the victim. She described being happy at first, having her own room, and being able to take walks with her dog. The victim testified how that happiness changed when Roach returned home from his job as a truck driver. The victim testified of trying to resist Roach as he proceeded to rape her. According to the victim, Roach wanted to “spice up” the sex and bought sexual toys, a sex slave outfit, and a see-through outfit.

The victim’s friend, who was in her early 20s at the time, testified that Roach showed her the sex items that he said he bought to use on the victim.

That friend observed changes in the victim’s behavior, and that she did not appear to want to be around Roach. The friend took the victim to a cookout at her aunt’s house, where the victim revealed to the friend’s aunt that Roach wanted to marry her and that Roach was having sex with her. The friend helped move the victim from the residence, and she used her cell phone to take a photograph of the box of sexual items that was kept in the victim’s closet, along with a box of pornographic DVDs and video tapes.

The friend’s aunt testified that after the victim revealed to her that Roach wanted to marry her and that Roach was having sex with her, the friend’s aunt called the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office.

The friend’s aunt further testified that Roach called her and said that the victim “wants it,” that “she wants a man not a boy” and that he planned on marrying her.

The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office obtained and executed a search warrant and found an empty sex toy box, sex toys, and lotion bottles with a red dragon emblem, which had previously been described by the victim.

Roach’s testimony to the jury included that he denied ever having sex with the victim, and he denied making the statements.

Retired Middlesex Circuit Court Judge William H. Shaw III ordered a pre-sentence report and formal sentencing by the court is scheduled for September 5, 2018, at 1:30 p.m.
