Gunfight leads to attempted murder charge
On April 22, 2012, Middlesex deputies responded to the 1000 block of Lovers Retreat Road near Saluda in reference to a complaint of gunshots fired. The caller indicated an altercation had taken place resulting in two parties exchanging gunfire. Once on the scene, deputies called in Middlesex detectives and the Virginia State Police.
The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office investigation resulted in warrants being obtained immediately for a 25-year-old Saluda man, Courtney Maurice Dixon. Charges filed against Dixon by the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office include attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, concealing a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
The sheriff’s office later received information that Dixon fled to the Philadelphia area. Middlesex detectives worked with detectives from Philadelphia police to apprehend Dixon.
On October 29, 2012, Dixon was extradited back to Middlesex County where he had been charged on the outstanding warrants. He was arraigned in Middlesex General District Court on November 5.
Dixon is currently being held at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center in Saluda without bond.
