Fifty years of memories

The Miss Ann (Photo by Richard Haynes)

On Saturday, August 16, Urbanna celebrated the long tradition of the yacht “Miss Ann” coming to town from the Tides Inn in Irvington. The yacht has been bringing passengers from the Inn to Urbanna on Saturdays for over 50 years. The tradition will end soon as the Miss Ann has been sold and will leave the Rappahannock River. The Miss Ann’s final “Whiskey Run” to Urbanna will be on September 6. Last Saturday, members of the Urbanna Town Council met the yacht and crew at the old Texaco dock on Urbanna Creek, and Mayor Beatrice Taylor read a resolution declaring August 16, 2008 as “Miss Ann Day in Urbanna.” A reception for the captain and crew was held at the Middlesex Art Guild Gallery following the ceremony at the dock. Above, the yacht enters Urbanna Creek by Rosegill Beach.

Fort Nonsense in Urbanna put out the welcome mat for the “Miss Ann” on her visit to Urbanna on Saturday. It was “Miss Ann Day” in Urbanna. The majestic yacht owned by Tides Inn will return to Urbanna for her final run on September 6 before heading north to serve new owners.
