Election ballot finalized

The ballot has been set for the November 5, 2019 General Election. The filing deadline was Tuesday, June 11. All local terms are for four years.

Last week Reginald A. Williams Sr. qualified as a candidate for member Board of Supervisors, Harmony Village District, reported Melissa D. Welch, Middlesex County Director of Elections and General Registrar.

Williams is challenging current Harmony Village representative Kathy Swinehart, who won a special election in November 2018 to fill the unexpired term made vacant with the death of Jack Miller. 

Candidates seeking to represent the Pinetop District on the Board of Supervisors include incumbent M.E. “Chip” Holt III and challenger Lud H. Kimbrough III.

Incumbent Wayne Jessie Sr. is seeking another term representing the Jamaica District. He is being challenged by Elizabeth W. Whitaker.

Others who have qualified as candidates include current members of the Middlesex School Board, Elliott W. Reed and Claudia H. Soucek. Reed is running to represent the Jamaica District. Soucek is seeking to represent the Harmony Village District.

Seeking re-election in the Pinetop District is Garland Harrow, who filed this week.

Middlesex constitutional offices on the November 5 ballot include the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Commissioner of the Revenue, Sheriff, and Treasurer.

Qualified candidates for Middlesex Commissioner of the Revenue include E. Mae Burke and Jonathan M. Farinholt. Incumbent Bonnie Davenport is not seeking re-election.

Qualified candidates for Middlesex Commonwealth’s Attorney include incumbent Michael T. Hurd, and challenger David H. Eberline.

In the Middlesex Sheriff’s race, current Sheriff David P. Bushey is seeking another term. He is being challenged by C.B. “Blair” Sibley.

Kathy S. Thrift is the only candidate for Middlesex Treasurer.

Also on the ballot are two seats on the Soil and Water Conservation District Commission. Jason R. Bray and Alan T. Sutherlin have qualified as candidates and are seeking another term on the commission.

State offices on the ballot include the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates.
