Dirt Bridge Road closed due to drainage issues

VDOT will replace two lines of 48-inch pipe and pour new concrete headwalls on Dirt Bridge Road in Topping due to a failure. Repairs are estimated to be complete on or before May 1.

Dirt Bridge Road (Route 622 ) in Topping will be closed to through traffic between Route 3 (Greys Point Road) and Route 623 (Regent Road) while VDOT makes repairs to a drainage pipe that failed.

Access to all residential entrances will be maintained on Dirt Bridge Road on both sides of the repair site.

To make the repair, VDOT will replace two lines of 48-inch pipe and pour new concrete headwalls, explained Joyce McGowan, resident engineer for VDOT’s Saluda office. VDOT anticipates having Dirt Bridge Road opened on or before May 1 and the completion date is dependent on weather and any unforeseen circumstances, she added.

VDOT has posted signs to guide motorists along the recommended detour route, which keeps traffic on the main roads of Route 3 and 33, until Dirt Bridge Road reopens.

An average of 3,300 vehicles a day travel on Dirt Bridge Road between Route 3 and Regent Road, said Kelly Hannon of VDOT.
