On February 10, a State Police crash reconstruction team is scheduled to visit the scene of Monday’s two-car crash on Route 33 just west of the Hartfield Post Office, said First Sergeant Kevin Barrick of the Virginia State Police’s Gloucester Office.

This video shows the scene of the accident after the driver of the pickup was airlifted.
A 2003 Toyota pick-up and a Chevrolet van were both traveling east on Route 33 when they collided about 5:26 p.m on Monday, said Sgt. Barrick.

Barrick would not speculate on how the collision occurred.

The Toyota, driven by Robert William Rudd of Deltaville, overturned several times and he was ejected from the vehicle, said Sgt. Barrick. Rudd was transported via LifeEvac helicopter to MCV in Richmond, where he was “not in critical condition on Tuesday,” said Sgt. Barrick.

The van driver, Dennis H. Brandenburg of Deltaville, was not injured, said Sgt. Barrick.

Debris was scattered across both lanes of Route 33 and traffic was stopped in both directions on Route 33. Traffic was detoured around the crash on Grafton Church Road for about 3 hours by VDOT workers.

The crash is being investigated by Trooper T.E. Hudson.
