Julio A. Arias of Charlottesville has been charged with reckless driving in connection with a two-vehicle crash on Monday about 11 a.m., said Virginia State Trooper T.E. Hudson.

According to Trooper Hudson, Arias drove his SUV across a double yellow line at a high rate of speed on a curve on Route 3 near the Rappahannock Crossing Shopping Center. Arias was attempting to pass a pickup that was turning left from Route 3 onto Long Point Lane.

The SUV caught the front bumper of the turning truck and rolled over several times, said Trooper Hudson.

At the crash scene, a motorist stopped and reported that before the crash the SUV had passed over a double yellow line and was being driven “recklessly,” said Trooper Hudson.

Arias and the driver of the pickup were both transported to a hospital by the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad of Deltaville.

Arias’ injuries were not known, but he was conscious at the scene.

The Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
