Council now has seven candidates for six seats

With five days left to file as a candidate for the November 6, 2018 election, seven candidates have filed seeking a seat on the 6-member Urbanna Town Council.

Recent candidates who filed include incumbent Barbara M. Hartley, and two candidates seeking their first term on town council, William T. Goldsmith and Clayton A. Chandler. All have filed the necessary forms to have their names placed on the November 6 ballot, reported Melissa D. Welch, Middlesex County Director of Elections and General Registrar.

Other qualified candidates for town council include current council members Majorie F. Austin, Larry S. Chowning, and Boyd C. Wiley, and William H. “Bill” Smith who is seeking his first term on council.

Urbanna’s current mayor, Steven S. Hollberg, has filed and is a qualified candidate for mayor. At press time he is the only candidate for mayor.

Urbanna terms are for 2 years.

No petitions are required to be a candidate for Urbanna offices due to a population exemption, explained Welch. A candidate seeking a seat in Urbanna only has to complete two forms, Declaration of Candidacy, and Certification of Candidate Qualification. These forms are available in the registrar’s office in Saluda and online at
