Cooks Corner sewer collection will cost county $1.6 million

by Tom Chillemi

“Sewer” is a five letter word that means growth. And it has only just begun.

On February 5, 2019 the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (BOS) voted to move ahead with a $1.6 million wastewater “collection” system for the proposed Cooks Corner Revitalization Project. The $1.6 million will be paid for with county dollars.

Another $2.3 million will be spent on a “forced main” and to pump the wastewater 1.8 miles to the Central Middlesex Treatment Plant at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center in Saluda.

The Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) will not pay for the wastewater collection systems at Cooks Corner, but will pay $2.3 million for the pipeline to pump it to Saluda.
