Fifth annual Bluegrass Family Day and Fly-In



The 5th annual Bluegrass Family Day and Fly-In to benefit the American Cancer Society and the Peninsula Cancer Institute will be held at the Middle Peninsula Regional Airport in Mattaponi on Saturday, June 14, in memory of Mary Ann Clements and Shirley Norman. There is no charge for admission, but donations will be appreciated. Bring lawn chairs and enjoy a day of family fun.

Live bluegrass music will be provided between 10 a.m . and 5:30 p.m. Music will be provided by “Solid Rock Gospel Band,” “Mill-Town Grass Band,” “Code Blue Band,” and “Thunder Creek Gospel Band.” The bands will donate their time and talent for this worthy cause.

Parking-lot picking is allowed; bring instruments.

There will be activities for children of all ages throughout the day, including a moon walk, clowns, face painting, games, balloons, prizes and more.

The West Point Volunteer Fire and Rescue will provide food. A pancake breakfast will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Lunch items, funnel cakes, and soft drinks will be offered throughout the day.

Planes will start arriving at 8 a.m. and the expected departure will be around 6 p.m. There will be airplane rides ($10 children, $20 adult). Many types of airplanes are expected.

The West Point Skydivers will be jumping during the day.
