Another black bear sighting occurred Tuesday, August 11, this time at Lucy’s Cove in Deltaville. The bear was spotted in the yard of Tuna and Beverly Norris, where it played a game of chase with the family dog, a Mountain Feist named Bo.

Mountain Feists are little dogs (10-30 pounds) bred for hunting squirrels and other small game, but as far as Bo is concerned anything furry will suffice.  According to Tuna Norris’ son, Brad, the family dog and bear took turns chasing each other around the yard. Lucky for Bo, the bear didn’t have an appetite for Mountain Feist.

Ryan Norris used his mobile phone to record this short video of the black bear playfully engaging the family dog.
Instead, the bear tore into a fake deer used for target practice. “It completely destroyed the target,” said Brad Norris.  “I think he was upset when he took the first bite and realized it didn’t taste like deer.”

Tuna Norris and his youngest son, Ryan, were able to scare the bear off by clapping their hands together loudly. The bear then continued along the road where it lay down on its stomach and started eating corn.
