A black bear was spotted at 2:45 p.m. Monday, August 17, just east of Saluda. Melinda Hart and her family were sitting in their living room when Melinda’s sister-in-law, Corrina Hart, saw the black bear in their front yard. Melinda grabbed her camera and photographed the bear before it headed toward a neighbor’s house.

“I let my neighbors know that it was here in Saluda,” said Melinda. “Within a few minutes of letting my neighbor Annie Johnson know it was in her backyard, the bear was on her back deck looking in her window.  After that, it proceeded to my other neighbor’s yard at Marshall Johnson’s Body Shop [on Route 33].”

Black bear sightings have become common over the past week in both the Saluda and Deltaville areas.
