The Bridge Fest Committee announced a Classic Car Caravan will kick off the Bridge Fest Celebration on Saturday, August 23, in White Stone.

“All of the cars will be of 1958 or earlier vintage. This coincides with the age of the Robert O. Norris Bridge, which was dedicated in 1957. It’s a great way to begin our festivities,” said White Stone Town Manager Garey Conrad, one of the organizers of Bridge Fest. “Since this is the inaugural Bridge Fest, we wanted several special events for families to enjoy.”

The Classic Car Caravan begins at 4 p.m. at Grey’s Point Camp at Topping in Middlesex County. The cars will cross the Norris Bridge over the Rappahannock River into White Stone. The cars will then turn right on to Chesapeake Drive and then park for the afternoon beside the Women’s Club where they will be available for up close viewing.

“There are 25 antique cars for the parade-watchers to enjoy” said Jack Ashburn, coordinator. “Our oldest vehicles are a 1928 Ford and a 1929 Packard. Our ‘youngest’ is a 1958 Cadillac convertible. Plus, there will be Fords from the 30s and 40s, Chevys, a Packard, a Hudson, a Jeepster and a Studebaker. You’ll see handsomely restored and maintained rides.”

The Bridge Fest Parade gets started immediately after the classic cars arrive in White Stone. The parade travels down Chesapeake Drive from the western town limits and turns right onto Beach Road where it concludes.

“Come early and get a good seat for all the festivities,” said Conrad. “The Honey Wind Bluegrass Band will play from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the bandstand behind the White Stone Volunteer Fire Department followed by the Ft. Monroe Army Rock Band from 7 to 9 p.m. This will be a terrific way to spend a summer afternoon and evening.”

Food and craft vendors will be set up in the field behind the fire department from 2:30 to 7 p.m. For information on being a vendor, call Northern Neck State Bank at 435-4321. For information on being a parade participant, call the White Stone office at 435-3260, extension 117 or 118 (Monday-Wednesday), or call Sandy Matthews at 435-2382 (Thursday-Friday).
