Soft-shell crabbing season off to an encouraging start
imageThe spring run of peeler and soft-shell crabs is here and local restaurants are featuring a spring favorite, “fresh” soft crabs from the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Local watermen are reporting good landings of peelers, which become delicious soft-shells once they shed their hard shells.

Public hearing on water access plan is Tuesday
A public hearing will be held by the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors on a proposed Public Waterfront Access Vision Plan on Tuesday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at the historic courthouse in Saluda.

County volunteer rescue squads steeped in heritage
imageThe Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad (MCVRS) was formed in Deltaville in the fall of 1958 in the garage of Mrs. William F. Marchant. Prior to that, and until 1969, local funeral homes provided ambulance service in the county.
