Restructuring of Urbanna budget leads to reserve
After extensive financial review, the Urbanna Town Council has proposed a balanced budget that is available for citizen review and comment. Council has created a reserve of $12,000 in the General Fund and $50,000 in the Water Fund. This extra money will be used as a reserve for emergencies and future expenses.

Hope abounds at Relay for Life
Survivors, caregivers and supporters gathered at Christchurch School last Friday for Middlesex County’s Relay for Life and, despite threatening weather, hundreds showed up throughout the evening to show their love and support for those suffering from, or having suffered through, the pain of cancer.

New alert system will contact residents in the event of an emergency
Middlesex County has started using the Everbridge Aware for Citizen Alerts, an emergency notification system that will allow communication with thousands of residents and businesses in minutes during emergencies. The county will be able to alert residents about severe weather, fires, floods, toxic environmental issues and other emergencies using Everbridge Aware for Citizen Alerts.

Search begins for new county administrator
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors will start the process of hiring a new county administrator to replace Charlie Culley, who has left to take a similar position in Caroline County. Interim county administrator Bill Whitley recommended advertising the position of county administrator by May 1 with applications accepted through June 28, 2012.
