U.S. Air Force’s John McKone — 50 years later
It was 1960. McKone, 28 at the time, was in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed overseas during the Cold War. He was the pilot of a RB-47 reconnaissance plane. During a routine flight, his plane was struck by the cannons of a Russian MIG.
