No tax or water hikes in Urbanna budget proposal
The proposed 2013-14 (FY14) budget for the Town of Urbanna calls for no tax increases, and no increase in the water rate. There will be a public hearing on the proposed budget on Monday, May 20, at 7 p.m. during council’s regular monthly meeting. The public is invited.

EDA approves $8.5 million bond; denies Habitat for Humanity grant
The Middlesex Economic Development Authority (EDA) approved issuing $8.5 million in bonds to Cape Henry Collegiate School Inc. of Virginia Beach. No members of the public spoke at the public hearing, which took place before the EDA’s vote at its April 18 meeting.

Tappahannock woman killed in car crash
A Tappahannock woman died in a two-vehicle crash at approximately 6:54 p.m., on Saturday, May 4, on Route 360 at Route 619 in Essex County, according to the Virginia State Police.
