Lodging tax of 2% approved
A 2% lodging tax will go into effect on July 1, 2018 in Middlesex and is expected to raise about $200,000 annually. At its April 3 meeting following a public hearing, Middlesex Board of Supervisors (BOS) voted to approve the ordinance. Monica Sanders of Topping was the only member of the public to speak and said she supported the tax.

Urbanna Town-Wide Yard Sale is Saturday
Have a 10 foot by 10 foot space in town for $10. Register at the Southside Sentinel office (758-2328) on Virginia Street in Urbanna any weekday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to select your location from a map of available spaces. Participants can place a tent on their space if they want.

Dogs can no longer run at large in Wilton Creek subdivision
The Middlesex Board of Supervisors (BOS) amended the Middlesex Animal Care and Control Ordinance on April 3, making it illegal for dogs to run at large in the Coves of Wilton Creek subdivision in Hartfield.

Board proposes 5-cent real estate tax increase
The Middlesex Board of Supervisors agreed at a budget work session on Tuesday, April 3, to advertise a $26,246,196 proposed budget with a 61-cent real estate tax rate per $100 of value, and a $2.05 personal property tax rate per $100 of value, for fiscal year 2018-19.
