Polar Plunge & Chili  Cook-Off due Feb. 17
The 5th annual Polar Plunge and Chili Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, February 17, at 10 a.m. at the Urbanna Town Marina on Urbanna Creek. All ages are welcome to the “coolest” event in Urbanna and the brave can test their body’s tolerance to a quick dip in the “chili” water of Urbanna Creek!

Grant-funded study to focus on town’s storm water runoff
Urbanna’s storm water runoff will be studied through a $45,000 grant awarded by the non-profit National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, said Paula Jasinski of Chesapeake Environmental Communications (CEC), which is the grant’s applicant and recipient.

Oyster season extended 7 days
imageMembers of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) voted on Tuesday, January 23, to extend the public oyster hand scrape season on five harvest areas for seven days due to “unseasonably frigid weather conditions” that kept watermen frozen in for as much as two weeks in December and January.
