Middlesex teaching positions may be cut
When informed several weeks ago that the upcoming FY10 school budget faced a 5% decrease in local funding, Middlesex School Superintendent Rusty Fairheart made it clear jobs and programs would have to be cut.

Judge rejects plans for King William Reservoir
On March 31, U.S. District Court Judge Henry H. Kennedy Jr., sided with several environmental groups that opposed the reservoir. On the big points, Kennedy found several of the U.S. Army Corps' and EPA's decisions leading up to permitting the reservoir to be "arbitrary and capricious."

Russell wins state corn yield award
imageRonnie Russell of Corbin Hall Farm at Samos has been honored as a state winner in the 2008 National Corn Yield Contest, sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association. Russell placed first in the state in the Ridge Till Irrigated Class with a yield of 251.3 bushels per acre.

No tax hikes in Middlesex
The board is still $315,000 short of balancing the proposed budget and will wait until after the public hearing on Tuesday, April 21, to decide how to make up the $315,000 shortfall. Supervisors must decide whether to provide the $315,000 from the county fund balance or make further cuts in the proposed budget.
