Vultures: ‘They’re back’
Vultures have returned to Urbanna. In March, about 200 vultures that had roosted in Urbanna were chased away by agents of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) using pyrotechnics similar to fireworks and by hanging a dead vulture in a tree.

Old store is shining again
imageOld Haywood’s Store building at 101 Watling Street in Urbanna has been given a new lease on life by owner Nancy Fisk who recently purchased the 1875 store building. Fisk has remodeled the building into four rental apartments with commercial space downstairs.

Middle Peninsula residents unite at Rally Against Hate
imageMore than 100 Middle Peninsula residents united on Sunday, August 13, for a rally in response to the hate and violence that transpired in Charlottesville this weekend. This protest, which called for non-violence and inclusion, was led by a diverse set of speakers including educators and activists as well as local NAACP, Indivisible, Circle Up, and Democratic committee leaders.
