The man serving 45 years for the second degree murder of Claudine Gifford was found guilty on January 4 of unlawful wounding of a couple in an altercation that took place just days after Gifford’s disappearance.

Realigning of creek channel a possibility
Middlesex County Administrator Matt Walker reported to the county board of supervisors on January 5 that the proposed second phase of dredging Jackson Creek might result in realigning Jackson Creek channel.

Public access survey and evaluation begins
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors recently approved a “memorandum of understanding” between the county and the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission for the Middle Peninsula Chesapeake Bay Public Access Authority to create a master plan that will establish a clear direction for public access in the county.

Urbanna to put dog droppings in their place
The Town of Urbanna has been awarded more than $23,000 in grants from various sources, it was announced at town council’s December 21, 2015 meeting. PetSmart Charities will fund $11,500 for the citizen-run Urbanna Cat Project to trap, spay or neuter, and release feral cats.
