Oyster Recovery Project builds 25-acre reef in Piankatank River
imageThe Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is the lead federal agency for implementing the $2 million reef project, which will provide a variety of habitat to fish and bottom-dwelling organisms, including recreational fish species, and will help to improve the water quality in the river.

County adopts ‘unsafe structures’ ordinance
Following a public hearing, the Middlesex Board of Supervisors (BOS) adopted a section of the State Code giving the county authority to deal with unsafe vacant structures, and with swimming pools.

HRSD study to focus on providing sewer to several areas in Middlesex
The Middlesex Board of Supervisors is considering the feasibility of providing sewer service to areas other than Deltaville. In January 2017, the BOS authorized Hampton Roads Sanitation District to focus its study only on the Deltaville area, in anticipation of a proposed drinking water system being built.
