Developer threatens to continue litigation
Developer Ray Watson delivered a scathing attack on a recent letter from Urbanna Town Administrator Lewis Filling during Monday’s Urbanna Town Council meeting—and he threatened more litigation against the town. “How high do you want your real estate taxes to go in this town?” Watson asked, indicating that litigation will cost taxpayers.

Middlesex County lawsuit hearing postponed
A Middlesex Circuit Court hearing on a $14 million lawsuit against Middlesex County scheduled for April 9 was postponed. The hearing has not been rescheduled. Developer Gene A. Ruark of Deltaville sued the Middlesex Board of Supervisors on October 2, 2008, claiming that the board’s failure to rezone his 630 acres from Low Density Rural to Residential amounts to “a taking of the Property.”

Land application to be considered
Following a “sewage summit” on April 14, Jim Pyne, chief of the Small Communities Division of Hampton Roads Sanitation Division (HRSD), said the HRSD Commission will consider a request to perform a land application study as a way to dispose of wastewater in the Saluda and Urbanna area.

Time to battle bagworms
imageThe bagworm is a general pest of trees and shrubs. The caterpillar of a moth, the bagworm constructs a carrot-shaped, or ice cream cone shaped, case or bag formed from plant material. They attack both deciduous trees and evergreens, but are especially damaging to Leyland cypress, juniper, arborvitae, spruce pine and cedar (most conifers).
