Deterioration of Healy’s dam worries homeowners
Mary Ann Willis, who owns land on the pond, asked supervisors if they would endorse a policy to lower the water level of the pond to hopefully slow deterioration of the pond dam and minimize environmental damage downstream if the dam were to break. Willis indicated some homeowners wanted to lower the water level in the pond, while others wanted to keep the water at the current level.

Budget hearing is Thursday
The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in the historic courthouse in Saluda on a proposed FY11 $19 million budget that includes a proposed 12-cent increase in the real estate tax rate.

Middlesex officials seek reasons for revenue shortfall
Middlesex County Administrator Charles Culley reported this week that in figuring the 2008-09 (FY09) budget two years ago he made about a $400,000 mistake by including non-taxable property values in with taxable values when figuring anticipated budget revenues.

Mansfield touts land application of wastewater
Disposing of treated wastewater on land instead of in Urbanna Creek could be cheaper and better for the environment, said Pete Mansfield of the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors. Mansfield addressed the Urbanna Town Council Monday and showed them a plan for “land application” of treated wastewater.
