VMRC to buy back 359 commercial crab licenses
The Virginia Marine Resources Commission will buy back 359 commercial crab licenses, in a historic action to take more than 75,000 crab pots off the water as part of a multi-year species rebuilding effort.

Student missionary from Laneview found murdered
Kirsten Elisabeth Wolcott of Laneview in Essex County, a 20-year-old Seventh-Day Adventist student missionary, was found murdered on the Pacific island of Yap after going jogging near the school where she was teaching, according to a story on the Richmond Times-Dispatch website.

Smoke-free restaurant law effective on Dec. 1
Just a few days remain until a new Virginia law restricting smoking in restaurants goes into effect. Starting December 1, smoking will be prohibited in restaurants, with some exceptions. Smokers and proprietors who violate the law will face civil penalties of $25.
