Thousands of trees were downed and hundreds of power lines severed Sunday afternoon as a storm system tore through Lancaster County. The storm, which moved down the Rappahannock River around 3:30 p.m., brought with it heavy rains, strong winds and hail.

The Norfolk District Army Corps of Engineers has received federal stimulus funding to dredge Broad Creek in Deltaville, reported Corps official Douglas H. Stampers in a June 10 email to Middlesex County officials. “The funding should be sufficient . . . to dredge the channel and prepare the upland site to accept the material,” said Stampers.
