Deborah Pratt is still the fastest shucker in Virginia
imageDeborah Pratt of Middlesex repeated as the Virginia Oyster Shucking Champion and Timmy Jenkins of Hayes was runner-up at the 52nd annual Urbanna Oyster Festival Saturday. Pratt also won the Women's State Championship and Jenkins was the Men's State Champion. The contest was sponsored by Revere Gas.

Oyster Festival crowns Queen and Little Miss Spat
imageKendall McNamee was crowned Queen of 52nd annual Urbanna Oyster Festival Friday and Katie Brooke was selected Little Miss Spat. Susan Heyman was first runner-up in the Queen competition, and Libbie Randolph was second runner-up.

Let the festival begin!
imageMore than 100 vendors, five entertainment stages and two parades equal one fantastic festival—the 52nd Urbanna Oyster Festival this Friday and Saturday, November 6-7. Oysters fresh from the Rappahannock River will be available again. The bounty that sustained locals for centuries is being dredged just a few miles from Urbanna.

Rappahannock River oysters will be at festival
imageMost of the oysters at the Urbanna Oyster Festival this year will be local oysters harvested in the Rappahannock and Potomac rivers and Chesapeake Bay. The Oyster Festival was started 52 years ago as a way to honor an industry that played such a dynamic role in the economic life of the Town of Urbanna and Middlesex County.
