Bob and Beth Straw of Urbanna recently bought a street legal golf cart, also known as a Low Speed Vehicle (LSV), to combat traffic, noise and pollution.

A land conservation easement is designed to preserve open space, protect natural habitats for fish, wildlife and plants, preserve historic land and buildings, and preserve land for recreation or education of the general public.

Middlesex County currently requires that 30 percent of land in a major subdivision remain in open space. A planning commission proposal in June recommended that 50 percent be required.

Fire consumed the home of Randolph and Gloria Lane on Urbanna Road (Rt. 227) on Tuesday. An adult male and juvenile were home when the fire started about 6 p.m. and escaped unharmed.
