Buyboat Homecoming: ‘biggest and best’
Good weather and beautiful boats brought hundreds of people to Urbanna last Friday and Saturday to get a glimpse of the area’s maritime past at the 5th Annual Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Homecoming. The event was held at the Urbanna Town Marina at Upton’s Point on Urbanna Creek.

The Middlesex County School Board voted on July 29 to appoint Dr. James Lane as interim assistant superintendent of schools for the upcoming school year. Dr. Lane will maintain his primary role as principal at St. Clare Walker Middle School, but will also assume some division-wide instructional responsibilities. Dr. Lane will assume the duties of former assistant superintendent Rashard J. Wright, who resigned in June to become principal of Kecoughtan High School.

Virginia’s back-to-school sales tax holiday begins Friday, August 7, and continues through Sunday, August 9. There is no limit on the number of items one can buy as long as each one qualifies under the holiday’s guidelines.

A 44-year-old unconscious man was pulled from the bottom of the lake at Bethpage Camp-Resort near Urbanna on Saturday about 4 p.m., said a spokesman for the Middlesex Sheriff's Office.

"This is the third buyboat rendezvous held in Urbanna," said director of the event Bill Hight. "This was the biggest and best rendezvous that we have ever had." The other two rendezvouses were held at Rock Hall, Maryland and Tangier Island.
