Real estate appraisal firm reports steady values
The Middlesex County real estate reassessment has started and, according to the county’s appraising firm, preliminary stu-dies show that the assessed values of real estate in 2007 are about 94.9% of current value. “This means that if you own a $100,000 home now, you currently are being taxed on $94,900 of its real value,” said Steve Wampler of Wampler-Eanes appraising firm.

Head of planning district commission retires
imageAfter more than 24 years as executive director of the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission (MPPDC), Dan Kavanagh announced his resignation last week. Kavanagh, 61, will retire on March 1, 2011.

Police acquire financial records in embezzlement investigation
The seizure of the records was the result of two of three search warrants filed several weeks ago by Jennifer S. Brown, a special agent accountant with the Virginia State Police. The warrants are in connection with the alleged embezzlement and grand larceny of CMVRS funds by Filling while he was treasurer of CMVRS from January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2010.

The auction of Jackson Creek Marine in Hardyville
