VIMS Report shows $11M direct loss to VA oyster industry from Gulf oil spill
A new report from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science estimates the Deep Horizon Gulf oil spill will cost Virginia's oyster industry $11.6 million annually in direct economic losses, and total, "water-to-table" losses of $30.1 million.

The Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad (CMVRS) of Urbanna now has full 24-hour-a-day service throughout the week and twice the number of certified volunteers in the squad than it had in February, said squad president Christian Foster this week.

The Urbanna Oyster Festival Foundation has announced a contest for the 53rd Urbanna Oyster Festival, set for November 5-6. One of the many festival traditions is an annual poster or print. This year, the foundation will again have a festival poster and wants to include everyone in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the project.
